Route 66 garage mural

Sunday, March 18, 2012

I have had the great opportunity to paint a fun mural on the backside of a 4 car garage. The famous route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica,CA has a lot of famous landmarks along the way. I created a collage that is 46 feet long and 6 feet high of many of the stops along the way.

Bahamas Maps

Sunday, February 26, 2012

One fun project this month was somewhat of a challenge for me. I had a blank canvas of walls in a workout room. All the walls are 14 feet high, and somehow I needed to fill them with a map of the Bahamas. I decided to get from the client the island chains that he most frequented and those that are special to him. Having done this, I proposed that we imagine the walls as if they were showing parts of a table top that has maps laid on top of one another in an overlapped pattern.

We also wanted to create a look of antique old maps. For this I researched many old maps and used lots of the interesting compasses and drawings on them. I also found some ships that I reduced down to just a tone on tone look.

Transforming Michelle's terrace level

Saturday, January 21, 2012

Michelle wanted a truly stunning terrace level for parties and friends. She put in new stone tile, I did faux finishes on all the walls, including bathrooms, we spruced up the bar, I did a venetian plaster on the ceiling and a mural on the wall. We put in a first class wine cellar with faux, murals, wine barrels, brick, stone. Next to the main room is the billiard room where I painted the card motiff on the ceiling. A great place and very comfortable. From blah to bold.

A real indoor treehouse playroom

The month of November was filled with creating a playroom fit for a little king. Yes we built a full scale treehouse and surrounded it with wall to wall , ceiling, bathroom, and closet murals. I have to say I really didn't know what I was doing going into this project but one bite at a time it turned out magnificent. Truly the finished project was something I could be very proud of.. I have to give credit to Sue who worked hand in hand with all the ideas, Linda for all her help and running around to make it successful, Mat for his mad building skills and Brad my helper.

Some new oil paintings

Monday, August 22, 2011

I have been busy painting more scenes from Italy. Many of these new paintings I did for the Marietta Art Walk show. I am showing paintings for sale on the first Friday of the months July, August, September, and October. I am at the Marietta Square in the back of Duprees Antiques from 5-9 p.m. I hope you can come. I have original paintings, giclee's, and greeting card prints.

My new people project

Saturday, March 12, 2011

I have been working on my skills in drawing people. I have set out to draw one person most every night. I have almost two sketchbooks filled now. I have seen how much it has helped me overall to practice every day. We tell our children to practice piano, sports, or dance all the time I guess I finally took my own advice and wa-la it works!

Anyway, because of this my confidence is much higher when it comes to drawing people. Good thing too because my last client asked me to paint a whole line of people from the 1940's time period on the wall of his theater room. They had the idea of them being the paparazzi standing behind the rope taking pictures of the stars. The stars being those in the room watching the movie. Then they decide to include themselves into the mural also. So I spent 5 days painting in a tone on tone style. I had a great time doing this project. Perhaps I will charge more though next time.

A fun new project

I was recently commissioned to create a coat of arms for a client. We used some elements of their own coat of arms and some of my ideas on design. We wanted to use some old wood that would make it interesting and have an old appearance. I went in search of some old wood and found some tongue and grove cypress that was 150 yrs old. It has beetle holes in it and overall just looked great for this project. I had fun putting it all together and the end project is 3 inches thick and 7 feet tall and 5 feet wide. After painting and aging it I waxed it.

Some large fall leaves for a wine cellar

These are a textured leather finish

Textured stone around bar and backsplash

This is a soft rubbed finish

I call this my broken strie and this was a new color combo for me

For a theater room, we went with dark burgundy with an embossed stencil at the top

God has really blessed me this December and I have been very busy with all kinds of jobs. Here are a few pictures of the most recent things I have done.
